Beginner vegetable garden

Whenever we are starting something, we like to aim high. It is true for vegetable gardening as much as anything else does. We tend to revise our targets as we go along. Therefore, it is better to start small and expand as you go along. Whenever you are going to grow something, you have to keep two factors into your consideration. First is the availability of light and fertility of soil. As everyone, know that plants need light to produce their food and survive. Another important factor is the kind of soil, because all the nutrients that plants use in making their food through photosynthesis come from soil. It means that good soil is imperative for good crop.

Where you grow the vegetables

It is very important to choose a place that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight. Another important factor that can help you n getting good yield from your garden is adequate drainage. You can improve the drainage by raising the bed by 6 – 9 inches. It can be especially helpful if your local soil is not too fertile than you can import the soil to make the raised bed.

Preparing for plantation

As was mentioned before that you should fill your raised bed by using imported soil that is very rich. A reliable source from where you can find this soil is your local gardener. When you have deposited that soil you can start preparing your bed for actual plantation.in case you want an organic farm you need to fill the top of your bed with compost. Level it with a rake and make neat orderly rows.

Actual plantation

Start planting in nice and warm weather as frost can easily destroy the new plant. Also start with vegetables that are easy to grow, like; beanpoles, squash, salad leaves and tomatoes. Do not over water your plants as it can cause decay in your roots. Also, keep adequate space between your plants so that they do not grow into each other and block each other’s light, food and water.

After plantation care and harvest

Once you have planted your vegetables you have to take constant care of your vegetable garden. Water it when top of your bed dries up. Give it a good soaking that it is wet most of the way down to your raised bed. Put in fertilizer once a month. Mix it in equal ratios.
